Task 1a - Additional Research

Here is some additional research I'm conducting that revolve around food photography. The first bit is 'Ring Flash Macro Photography'. This is a technique to get good lighting in the image.

Ring Flash Photography

This is an example of an image taken using a ring flash. The ring flash actually fits on the lens so it's a circular source of lighting. You can see in the example the bright white bits on the juice there. If you look at the plate, you can see the curve of the lights in a circle format. I think overall it does add nice additional lighting to the fruits. I think it brings out the colours and makes it look appetising when looking at the juice and the smaller details.

Flat Lays

This is a Instagram technique that I personally love. It's called flat lays and it's basically birds eye view to keep it pretty simple. I love how simplistic it can look yet be so eye catching. To achieve this technique in this DIY home method, you place your subject flat on a nice background surface in a nice precision way and then use a step to stand over your subject and then capture your shot when you feel that you are directly stood over. I think this technique really inspires me to photograph food in this way.

Here's a link I found very useful:

This link actually complimented the things I've picked up from my research of looking at images, and mentioned things like emphasising on vibrant colours and using good lighting and composition in order to take some decent shots. I will use this as a guide to when I take my images.
