Task 2 - Location Photography

In this task, we are producing landscape images. We are shooting a minimum of two different rural/country landscapes and a minimum of two different urban/city landscapes. Also need a night time scene in the city. These images will be presented in a square format so some consideration is required whilst photographing. Here are my contacts from my shoots:

Night - Additional

Overall, the shoots went well and I managed to get quite a lot of shots and some as additional images. The first shoot went okay, I managed to get some rural shots of some views and nature and some urban/city ones where I tried getting a ghost effect on my images to show the busy side of the city like people are constantly about. The second shoot which is additional to daytime shooting was when I got more urban/street shots of derelict sites and took images at the train station sites. I think the location for this task was well considered and I managed to fit my location to the purpose of my photography.

Selected Images from all shoots:

Rural/Country 1

This is a close-up shot of a tree. The reason why I've selected this is because it's the season of Autumn and I thought it was a good time to capture this where there's not many leaves so all we can see is the branches. I've composed this so it's coming from a corner and then you can see the ends in the middle. I like how the details in the sky is lost so it focuses on the branches more under the white backlit. This would possibly work for a rock cover in my opinion because it's quite a gritty image and the branches come across as edgy.
Rural/Country 2

This is a wider view of a tree for one of my rural images. I think this image would possibly work for folk/easy listening music because it's suits a relaxing theme. I would say that the nature element of the picture would suit the whole background music genre. I can envision this to be a music cover if you add some typography with a good title. I didn't edit it too much because I wanted to keep it natural so I just increased the highlight and shadows to give it a little bit of a punch.

Rural/Country 3

Here is another image for my rural/country from my shoots. Unlike the previous example, this image has been edited to the most where I've changed the neutral look. I've lowered the brightness and the contrast and played with levels and curves to get this look. I think this would be a great music cover for a rock album/heavy metal because it's quite extreme. I like how the sky looks, the colour is quite distinctive and it looks gritty overall. The original image is a simple shot of the mountain here, but it looks like it's been solarized/inverted here which is a great effect for rock/heavy metal music in my opinion because it's quite distinctive.

Urban/City 1

This image is part of my urban/city shots. I really liked this image because of the car. I managed to find this old fashioned car parked on the streets so I had to take the chance and grab a picture. I then edited this image so it looked washed away like I've mentioned in my research about most of the colour images. I wanted to make this look part of the decades so I thought of desaturating it the slightest bit and adding noise. This gave me this old effect which I think is well considered for the theme. I think this could work for two genres in my opinion, either rock or hip hop in these decades. I think it would work for rock because it's a gritty image and it could work well if it's been considered with a appropriate song. It could also work with hip hop because of the location, it's quite an urban place and the car is quite vintage which could represent wealth to a certain extent so it could work for either.

Urban/City 2

Here is my favourite image for urban/city from my shoot. I found this derelict site and thought it was a great opportunity to take images here because it looked really urban to me. There was rubbish all over the floor and the building behind looked like a state. I thought this was great to use for this task. I just edited this slightly to increase the contrast for a bit of kick and that brought out the dark patches on the building in the back. I thought this was a great technique for the image to darken it using levels and curves. I think this album would be best suited to hip hop because of the street vibe this image gives. It reminds me of the American examples I have in my research of some street photography.

Urban/City 3

This is more based upon the city landscape. I captured this movement from the bus and thought it was great to emphasis on this city life. I think the movement shows that the city is always a busy place and it's a great ghostly image. I like how you can see the old fashioned building in the back which is captured still and then the movement which is more overpowering. I think this could possibly work for a disco genre or rock. This is because of the lights and the blur of the movement. It's quite funky to an extent and this could be edited further to suit it to the genre a lot more.

Urban/City 4

Here is an urban shot of a car park. I've edited this in to black and white because I like the effect it gives on the lights inside the car park. It also makes it more street as it's quite minimalistic. I like how it looks as a square format because it's fairly parallel on either side of the pole. This would be best suited for the hip hop genre because it's focused more on the street theme.

Night Time Scene in the City.

This is my 'night time scene in the city' shot. I shot this whilst there was quite a lot of people stood at the front to capture the busy element of the city. I also taken this from a low angle so the building is slight high in angle. I've taken this image in a futuristic way so it would possibly be best suited for electronic music in my opinion because of the minimalistic look and the whole 'contemporary' theme to it.

Additional Night Time City Scene

Here is a light trail image from my additional night time shoot. I know long exposure light trails are clichéd but in my opinion, they look funky. I think this type of long exposure with the city present in the back would work nicely for a music cover. This would be best suited for the blues or folk genre in my opinion because of the smoothness element from the light trails. I think it's quite funky so it could work for disco or rock to a certain extent. It all depends how it can be edited and interpreted into the following genres but I do think it's quite open.
