Additional Images (Glass Primary Research)

Here is an extra photoshoot I've done after the primary research task. As I've mentioned previously, I decided to stay local near college in the previous task. The motive behind this was to shoot around town and beyond. Here are the contact prints:

The shoot went really well and I got some additional digital images of glass. Firstly, I went to Waterstones in Bradford because I knew that there would be nice glass architecture there. When I got there, I noticed that they had a message on the glass that was painted on. So I took close up shots of the brush strokes on the glass. Then I ended the shoot with some reflection images and some raindrop on glass images. Here are some of my best images:

I've selected this image because the focus is strictly on the glass lights. As it's focussing on the lights, it makes the background darker and I quite like this luminous look from these light shade box. This was taken in Waterstones and it was during the day. This image has a punch of contrast and it feels very rich. It works nicely because this place looks very historical and the lights look very vintage. I like how the shot is organised with the foreground light used to lead the image.

This was the message that I was talking about earlier, that was painted on glass. It was on the Waterstones shop floor front glass. I like this shot because not only does it focus on the pain, you can see the textures and scratches of the glass. I specifically took it at this angle because it has a light source which is out of focus on the top, but that light actually allows you to see the glass textures visibly.

Here is an image that I've shot of the reflection. I quite like the tone in the image because it's not overly bright. Having this gloomy theme, it creates a visible and colourful reflection. I like how the shot is composed and the camera is fairly straight. This makes the image eye-catching because it's how we are used to seeing so it looks very neutral. This type of image would have been better at night so the lights are reflecting better. But I still think this is good because the road looks dark and wet so the lights are visible enough. There is also the concept of capturing shop window glass, and these are buildings with glass on the front.

I like this image because it's taken at an angle. I captured this on a moving bus as it was turning in so I find it interesting. There is a minimal of raindrops on the window that is fully focused and the background is slightly out of focus. I like how it's a shallow depth of field because you can pretty much see the background and the cars.

Looking at raindrops, here is a deep depth of field version where I've focused on it sharply. I like how focused it is on the raindrops, but I don't really like the aesthetic feel behind it. Or how the raindrops are splattered in an odd and separated way; then you have this big chunk in the middle. I selected it simply because the technique was good here. I like how there's also light bokeh of the cars that are driving closer.

As I've ended the shoot on capturing raindrops on glass during the day, I thought I'll do another extra shoot during the evening/night of raindrops bokeh. This is because you get a better ambience with the darker background. Here are the contact prints for these images:

Best Images:

This is a better additional shoot and a better raindrop on glass image. I like the raindrops in here because it looks more colourful and more sharp because it has a darker background. I quite like how some of the raindrops are big so you can see inside. I used a standard 18-55mm lens here but I tried my hardest to get close and focus on each raindrop. I like the light bokehs in the back and it adds a nice colour touch. In comparison to the previous image, I like how the raindrops in here is consistent in the frame and it just looks so eye-catching.

Finally, this is a glass image I took of a frosted window. I like the details and the texture of the glass so I thought it would make a great, mysterious image. This was shot at night so you have these contrasted tones of blue and black. The white is coming from a lamppost outside my house. I quite like the colours and the textures as this was shot in focus. It's also very abstract which is different.
