After the first shoot went really well, I think it was time to shoot some more. I feel a lot more confident with this style of shooting and thought I'd just go for it and travel to the next town. Therefore, in this shoot I will be travelling to Leeds to capture some more moments for this candid styled street photography. Here are my contact prints from this shoot:
This shoot was amazing and went better than how I imagined it to be. I felt comfortable to go by myself and just snap some moments that I experience whilst there. It was a nice hot sunny day so everyone was out enjoying themselves in this busy city, and this encouraged me to travel around and get some good shots. I did use a basic kit lens again so it was tough in some occasions because I had to go close up, but most times it was fine because it was so busy anyway. I would have just used some tactics to point the camera up if they noticed but there was no issues again. It was a smooth and exciting shoot. Here are some of my images from the shoot:
I'd say this is one of the best images from the shoot. Referring back to my research, this reminds me of Gus's image because there's so much going on here and I think it's been captured well and in still focus. One of my intention while shooting was to capture the shop sign for American Apparel in the background. I like how there's a lot of people in the scene and the essence of the city is captured in this single candid shot. There's lots of different personalities from these individuals of the shot. You immediately see these two lady in the front who's pointing to the left and with a pram. Then you have a dog who's lead is attached but is set free with a girl looking back at the dog. There's a small kid with a jacket near the bin that takes most attention because it's such a subtle minimal image and his jacket really grabs the viewers attention because of the colour. This older man walking with a scruffy beard looks like the owner of the dog, he's captured while walking. I just love how it's been shot in line against the shop and you have all these characters which can give the viewer their own interpretation.
On the high street in most big cities, there are usually musicians and workers walking around doing their job, who we are used to seeing. I thought this would be good to capture because it portrays the city. So here is a leaflet distributor who was giving out leaflets for a noodles place. I captured this candid shot of him holding the leaflets and unfortunately, no one was taking any so I couldn't capture a shot of him handing it out. I did feel bad so I went and picked up one myself. The city was busy so it's become normal for people to just walk on because time is essential.
Coincidently, there was this older man who was probably visiting Leeds that was taking photos with his camera. I thought that I'd capture this because I quite like how busy the city looks just from all the buildings in the background. There is a bus and some street signs that has been captured and I feel like this image does show how busy the city life can be so like this gentleman is doing, just capture the moment.
I was walking along this road when a taxi pulled over after me and I captured the interaction this woman was having with the taxi. As I have a theme of capturing the moments of everyday life, I thought even this image was interesting for the conversation between a customer and a taxi. I like how it was a white taxi because it really stands out in the image. I feel like showing this to someone who wasn't from West Yorkshire will get to see a different scenery because of the different taxi look, and even the street, building and roads here.
Even though this image isn't really street photography, I just had to grab the chance in this amazing weather to grab a shot of this scene. While shooting this image, I thought about composition and urban geometry but just thought it will look great when the camera was still straight. I did it freehand and just love how the clouds are captured behind that tall building. I think this image would be good to compare the different sights we have in some cities. How we have abandoned sights with old broken architecture to something that's more contemporary like this.
Lots of walking later, I came across this street and thought this was interesting to shoot. I quite liked how the road had these scattered bricks and the buildings had the same repetitive design. As there was a bend on the street, I thought about my timing and waited till someone was walking past. Eventually, I found this couple walking past so I captured this image. I quite like how the lighting is because it's half in shadows and they're stood right in the centre which wasn't staged. It gives them a silhouette effect and I think they stand out because of size comparison and because they're dressed in black.
Lastly, I found these cool buildings which had different coloured walls so I managed to grab this shot while this lady was walking past. I had to ensure it was in focus because I didn't want to capture a blur of movement so I got this still shot. I quite like how this image looks because it reminds me of my research when I was looking at various examples. I didn't compose the shot this time to make it straight ahead like some of my images before, I captured this more at an angle because I thought the yellow double lines which isn't as popping as I thought would lead you in the image. The building however does make the image look very street along with this lady who is dressed smart.
