5th Shoot - Huddersfield

Here is the last digital photoshoot for this final major project. In this shoot, I will be heading to Huddersfield to shoot some more candid street photography images using the 18-135mm prime lens. One of the aim in this shoot is to shoot some candid portraits or closer shots of people as this is something that is that would be different to do so I thought i would do some explorations. Here are my contact prints:

The final shoot went really well and I got a range of different shots in and around Huddersfield. It's been a great genre to work with and I feel like I got some great shots throughout which is always a good feeling. Here are some of the images from this shoot:

To begin with, this image here is a close up candid shot of this woman who was walking past me, I quite like how the image turned out because of the shallow depth of field, and the background also captured the bus which gives gives the town the identity. I like how sharp her facial expression is captured and I like how she's unaware otherwise her behaviour and pose would have changed. I think her natural expression reflects how natural the shot is. I like the colours that are coming from the shops behind and I think the lens worked great for the depth of field in this image. I think the composition and the angle is what makes this image stand out because I've used rule of thirds but she's also lower in the frame so you immediately draw your eyes there, and it's also quite close up.

I found this gentleman walking with a Costa and liked his outfit so I went candid to get this shot. In comparison with the previous image, this image is a lot more different with the angles and the composition because the frame is filled more or less with the model and it's not just the head. I've also used a shallow depth of field here an you can see the background is a lot more busier. I did use the rule of thirds again and shot the model towards the right in the frame.

I quite like this candid moment of this couple because it represents relationships and couples you see around. I think I captured this at good timing while they were walking because of the way he's leaning towards her. The background is quite busy with people but I've used a shallow depth of field so the focal point is at the couple. I quite like the lighting because of the way the sun is shining near their faces and because it's quite colourful, it just looks good. I also like how she's got a cigarette and her phone in her hand which represents the life we live today.

This image stands out to me because of these two individuals and the way they were dressed. I just found the composition and timing to be spot on. I just love how KFC is captured within the shot and it just gives the image a lot more meaning because it gives it a street aesthetic. With my interpretation, they could possibly be a couple and I see a big difference from the previous image. I feel like this couple is more ghetto and me capturing this shot is just showing raw shots of how people have different personalities and styles, around these areas.

At this crossing, this man was captured whilst walking. I like this shot because of the way the town is capture in the back. We have a bus, taxis and people around and this portrays the area. I quite like how it's not really packed and busy but it's still busy with everything around. I quite like the old architecture from the buildings that is in a block. The exposure for the image is great with good lighting conditions because it's not too dark or bright and the colours are also not too bright and overpowering. I also like how it's a candid styled shot and I didn't use depth of field in this example, as I have used it multiple times.

Here is another behind the scene styled shot of this couple and I managed to capture this man's facial expression as he was throwing a carrier bag in the bin. I quite like this shot because it's candid and the background is full of cars with a parking sign displayed. I would say his fashion style is what makes this image fit the genre because the youth and young people are usually wearing designer clothes and the girls are also commonly wearing camel coats as it's currently in fashion.

As it was closer to lunchtime, I thought I'd capture some candid shots of people eating on the go and the shot this. I quite like this shot because the boy realised he was being photographed but with good timing, I got the shot of him biting into his food. I've used depth of field here because I wanted the focus to be strong on these two here. Additionally, you can still see the back and it does seem slightly busy so I think it fits with my genre because I've captured the atmosphere and people doing what is normal in 'everyday life'.

It just occurred to me as I was walking how a barbershop would be great to photograph because it just works well with my theme. I quite like this image because I captured this man who just had a haircut. I think this is a good shot because I captured his reflection on the shop glass and I also like how it's close up so you get the glimpse of the red and white colours that relate to a barbershop and some text on the glass window. I like this man's fashion and how he postured his body so it sure is one of my favourite shots.

This image was captured just outside the train station of Huddersfield and I like the location of the water fountains in the back. This woman who was captured was dressed formally and the motive behind the shot was capturing the work life. I quite like the details of the way she's walking because she is wearing heels so it just looks quite sophisticated. I believe her fashion works nicely with the architecture in the back because it's quite a nice location here.

Lastly, this image was captured at a bus stand in Huddersfield. With great timing, I captured this elderly woman waiting for her bus, whilst a bus was driving past. I see this image to be a good shot for my genre because it's captured an individual and the town aesthetics is also captured. I quite like how the bus stand is a lot different to the ones in Leeds and Bradford so this image really captures an aspect of this city.
